GUIDE

How to build a portfolio that gets clients

Good work isn't enough if no one sees it well presented. Here's what an online portfolio needs so a potential client trusts you from the first glance.

Choose quality over quantity

Showing 6 well-presented projects builds more trust than showing 20 with no order. Pick the ones that best represent the kind of work you want to keep doing, not necessarily the most recent.

Photos matter as much as the work itself

A great project with dark or poorly framed photos loses its impact. It's worth taking the time to photograph your work well, even with a phone, before putting it up.

Tell the context, don't just show the result

A photo alone says less than a photo with a short description: what the client needed, what you did, what result it got. That context is what turns “this looks nice” into “I want something like this for my business”.

Make the next step easy

A portfolio with no clear way to contact you loses interested clients. Every project, or the whole site, should lead to a direct contact button, like WhatsApp, without the person having to look for it.

Do I need a lot of projects to get started?

No, even 3 or 4 well-presented projects are enough to start. You can add more as you complete new work.

What if I'm just starting out with few projects of my own?

You can include personal projects, collaborations, or well-presented practice work — what matters is showing your level and style, not necessarily that everything was for paying clients.
